Cherokee Casino started out as a bingo hall in Oklahoma. The agency had been pushing them for quite some time by shifting their strategy from bingo to casino, even though it was still bingo for a while. At the time is wasn’t legal to have formal gambling, so they couldn’t even have black jack. There was a campaign we came up with later that never got produced, but it was spot-lighting the law and introducing it as “really really dark gray jack.” When I arrived at Ackerman Mcqueen, a new batch of spots was needed to extend the original campaign; that had to be as good or better than the original. We were already working on the cheap, so when it came down to producing the work, I couldn’t go. I just looked over the dailies and rough cuts with my boss and gave him my opinion. I love dialogue so brainstorming on this spot was a whole lot of fun. |
